I have been so bad about writing. I promise to be better!

It has been too long since my last post, but last night I ate something great. Chris and I were in St. Paul and hungry, someone suggested Cecil's Deli. I drove a very circuitous route there and got the ruben and the sasha. The sasha sounded like the most delicious (it was chris' favorite) pastrami with "bird sauce", cheese, and a fried egg on top. I will eat anything with egg, so this is why I decided I had to go there. But the ruben was by far the winner to me. It was so tangy and the bread was perfect. I need to go to St. Paul more often.

NYC #1

Where do I start? In NYC this past weekend, mostly eating and some rocking. Started out Friday morning w/a bagel from Murray's Bagels. Delicious, plain bagel w/walnut raisin cream cheese. Murray's just happened to be right around the corner from our hotel. We had lunch not to long after at Mon Petit Cafe, that was decent. Chris was the winner at that meal w/a croque madame I made him order. I had most of two Magnolia cupcakes that afternoon, which were a little dry, but the icing was great. That night we had dinner at The Spotted Pig. Guinea fowl w/morels in a maderia sauce. This was by far the best thing I ate the whole trip. The sauce alone was amazing. I fed Chris a bite before he had tasted his meal and he was already disappointed in his choice. I almost forgot, we were walking around the neighborhood waiting for our table to open up and we went into a little market. I was so excited that they had Malta there. It's silly I know, but I had seen Richard use it on Top Chef a few days before and was interested. I love a weird beverage. It was very malty (big shock w/a name like Malta) and kind of tasted like burnt liquid bread soaked in ginger beer. All this food is making me hungry, I'm getting a burger. More later....

Today I finished reading "Service Included: four star confessions of an eavesdropping waiter" and I loved it. I was so jealous of being able to work in such a super fancy restaurant. Not to mention being around such amazing food. I also had deer sausage that Tiger got from a friend and brought in for me to try. Delicious!! Recently, I came to the realization that I have a new favorite meat product; salami. I've had it on pizza a few times and I love it. Tomorrow I am going to make homemade ice cream sandwiches, I have been craving them for about a week. But right now I am going to on the hunt for a yogurt parfait, my new must have almost everyday food.

i'm not really sure how i feel about the term "foodie", but i guess that's what i am. i love food, eating it, making it, and learning about it. i have by default become known as a gourmand. mostly, i'm just trying to make up for two things: 1. growing up w/overcooked salisbury steak and green peppers that were called mangoes. 2. 14 years wasted not eating meat. i will now down a medium-rare steak at any opportunity. bring me a polish and i'll eat it no matter how full i am. my greatest food loves are ice cream and anything off a pig (except oddly enough bacon.) i am going to try to catalog all the highlights of what i make, where i go out to eat, and what i read about food wise. and if i'm not too full, have dessert after.
